Active ingredients & how it works: Contains arachis (peanut) oil, which lubricates and softens earwax, and chlorobutanol hemihydrate, which has preservative and mild antiseptic properties and helps to loosen the wax plug.

Indications: For the softening and removal of earwax in adults and children where earwax is causing blocked sensation, reduced hearing or discomfort. Often used prior to irrigation or microsuction.

Age range: Licensed for adults and children; young children (especially under 5 years) should be treated under medical supervision according to the leaflet.

How to use:

• Check the patient for peanut or soya allergy before recommending.
• Tilt the head so the affected ear is uppermost.
• Instil approximately 5 drops into the ear canal initially, unless the PIL states otherwise.
• Keep the head tilted for several minutes; a small plug of cotton wool may be placed at the canal entrance if advised.
• Subsequently, 2–3 drops can be used twice daily for a few days if required until the wax has softened adequately for removal.
• Follow the exact dosing and duration instructions in the PIL for the specific product strength.
• Always follow the PIL otherwise

Warnings & precautions (summary – not exhaustive):

• Contra‑indicated in patients with allergy to peanuts, soya, chlorobutanol or other excipients (due to arachis oil content).
• Do not use if the ear canal is inflamed, sore, infected, or if there is dermatitis or eczema of the outer ear – seek medical advice instead.
• Avoid use if the eardrum is, or may be, perforated, or if there is unexplained ear discharge.
• Stop treatment if local irritation, rash, or worsening pain occurs and arrange review.
• Always highlight the presence of peanut oil to patients and document any allergy checks.
