A simple olive oil ear drop used to soften and lubricate earwax before natural clearance or professional removal. It is gentle and advised to use 3-5 days before microsuction procedure.
Active ingredient | 100% olive oil.
How it works | Olive oil acts mainly as a lubricant/ emollient. It softens and moistens wax, helping natural migration of wax out of the canal and making wax easier to remove clinically. NHS advice supports olive/almond oil use for earwax build-up.
Indications | Earwax build-up, dry/hard wax, preparation before microsuction/ irrigation, recurrent wax where regular softening is advised.
Age range | Olive oil drops are commonly used in adults and children. For children under 5, we advise parent/carer to get confirmation from a pharmacist/GP/audiology service first, especially if symptoms are not clearly wax.
How to use | Warm bottle in hands. Lie on side with affected ear upwards. Apply 2–3 drops into the ear. Stay on side for 5–10 minutes. Repeat 2–3 times daily for 3–5 days before a earwax removal appointment.
Warnings & precautions | Do not use if suspected perforated eardrum, ear discharge, bleeding, severe pain, acute infection, sudden hearing loss, dizziness/vertigo, foreign body, or after ear surgery unless advised. Avoid if allergic/sensitive to olive oil. Do not push cotton wool into the canal; it can absorb the oil. NHS advises not using fingers/cotton buds/objects because they can push wax in further.
